KJ (chiralcomics) - Super Special Interview #1

Updated: Sep 24, 2023

1) Introduce yourself!

Hello, I am KJ, and I go by the name of @chiralcomics on all my social media platforms. I like to consider myself as a comics creator, as I write and draw my own stories.

2) Why do you do what you do?

Since young, I love reading manga, and it was a childhood aspiration to become a comic artist! But of course, back then, it felt like an impossible dream. Along the way, I fell out of touch with comics/manga, and only rediscovered this passion 3-4 years ago, and have been making up on lost time ever since.

3) Who or what inspires you?

My favourite manga is Hunter X Hunter and my favourite novel is Legend of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong.

4) How is your experience being a creator in Singapore?

It's great so far! I think the comics scene locally is still very small (but developing). Perhaps the most memorable experience would be my first booth at SGCC 2019 (unfortunately the last before COVID hits), the interaction with both local and overseas visitors and sharing the passion for comics.

5) What do you wish would happen in Singapore to help creators?

It would be amazing if Singapore decides to spend the money and develop the comics industry in Singapore, an industry where it's sustainable for locals to actually be a comic artist full time. This is probably wishful thinking but one can dream haha.

6) What are your goals?

I think my goal is just to put out the best story and comic out there, and knowing that there are readers who enjoy and look forward to my works. Of course, anything more like award, money is of course welcomed ha ha ha.

7) Where can people find and support you?

I can be found on FB, IG, Twitter @chiralcomics, and my website is chiralcomics.com while my email is chiralcomics@gmail.com

8) Anything else you want to share?

Check out my debut series "The World My Arena", a martial arts action drama series.

9) Give a shoutout to other local creators!

Shoutout to these local artists whom I have collaborated with alot, Pavith C (@pavith.creative), Ace (@ace_officialart) and Alan Bay (Smallguydoodle)
